Boiler & Machinery / Equipment Breakdown Expert WitnessView Boiler & Machinery / Equipment Breakdown Cases below Mr. Daniel’s experience with Boiler & Machinery coverage dates to 1975. Whether your case involves direct damage to machinery, boiler explosion, electric arcing or a consequential loss (i.e. food spoilage due to refrigeration loss) we have likely dealt with similar coverage or claims issues. These policies can be broadened to include Business Interruption and Extra Expense. Boiler & Machinery insurance originated in the 1800’s when steam boilers provided the power to run equipment and machinery. Boiler & Machinery policies today are more commonly styled “Equipment Breakdown” insurance. Coverage is designed to insure “sudden and accidental (equipment/mechanical) breakdowns” typically excluded in Property insurance policies. Nearly all businesses face exposure to Equipment Breakdown:
Computers and other electronics require specialized Electronic Equipment Breakdown policies. These policies are used to insure against loss from direct physical accidents (including electric surge,) reinstallation of software, and the cost to reconstruct data & media. Coverage for Business Income and Extra Expense loss, due to computer or electronics “Equipment Breakdown”, can also be insured under these policies.
