Homeowners Insurance Expert

View Homeowners Cases below

Homeowners policies traditionally provided comprehensive personal liability coverage to insureds and for damage to their homes, including loss from fire, windstorm and theft. In recent years, coverage has been restricted and carriers are more careful in selecting policyholders. Issues leading to this scenario include adverse claims experience for such things as mold in Texas, hurricanes in Florida and other multi-billion dollar natural disasters throughout the United States.

While coverage may be comprehensive in nature, certain terms & conditions in these policies are at the center of disagreements between policyholders, agents and carriers. Among the culprits at claim time:

  • Actual rebuilding cost (dwelling) or replacement cost (contents) may exceed policy limits.
  • Underinsured dwellings may incur coinsurance penalties.
  • Flood, earthquake, mold and other exclusions are poorly understood by policyholders.
  • Current building codes may significantly increase rebuilding costs.
  • Vacancy triggers impaired coverage.
  • Will we have adequate Additional Living Expense after a fire?
  • Home occupied by someone other than the owner.
  • Are personal liability limits adequate?
